The luxury yacht is a global symbol of power, prestige, and luxury. They also stand for privilege, the ability to travel the world free of the usual irritating trappings of international travel, the most discreet and opulent comfort.
Luxury yachts are designed to impress. In general, people don’t enjoy their luxury yacht on their own but rather use it as a way of entertaining and impressing the powerful and beautiful people of this world. Sumptuous and secretive, these exquisitely beautiful queens of the sea turn up in the world’s most exciting ports, to be admired from afar by lesser mortals.
Here we reveal some of the world’s largest and most impressive mega-yachts – and a little something about their fabulously wealthy owners.
1. M/Y Azaam
Said to be the largest so called private super yacht ever built, Motor Yacht Azaam is over 590 feet long with a beam of over 68 feet. With a top speed of 32 knots, she’s fast as well as large. Built in 2013 by Lurssen, she is owned by Sheikh Kalifa bin Zayed al-Nayan, Emir of Abu Dhabi. The interior is spectacularly beautiful with a huge central reception room of around 90 by 20 feet, boasting no supporting pillars. Azaam has a submarine and a missile defense system, and is available for charter at an undisclosed price. If you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it.
